whale killing and boyotts

When I learned that Iceland was killing seals, I made a commitment to boycott Iceland until they changed their ways. Other countries also have hot springs....and are cheaper and less hostile towards animals.

This whole Japanese whale-hunting issue is an atrocity to the modern thinker. Thanks to celeb Hayden Panettiere, who has a warrant out for her arrest by the Japanese government, we are now aware that seemingly civilized Japan also is worthy of a boycott. I don't understand whale hunting, but then again, I also don't see how seal bludgeoning still goes on in Canada. Do we even live in a civilized world? Have we ever?

Just yesterday a seal was floating on an ice-cake down a river in Massachusetts, playful and happy. I grew up going on whale watches, seeing enormous humpback whales bear their beautiful bodies for all who came to see. Will the next generation of youth even have that chance?

Respect needs to be taken for animals; international law needs to regulate our oceans and fishing industries. What I took for granted 10 or 20 years ago is now a rarity; humpback whales are very close to being endangered. Whales are sacred; if we knowingly destroy them, I have little hope for humanity as we know it.

Western Winterwonderland

Last week, I finally invested the 3.5 hours it takes to watch The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. I only know the modern day Clint Eastwood, good old leather face, but now I see why he was all the rage. But for god's sake, can someone please give that man some lip balm?
Once a western detester, I have finally jumped the fence. I guess I really don't care for John Wayne, really. Weekends are now invested in westerns. The Coen Brothers new movie, No Country for Old Men, is a modern day western with a twist. Although the ending is a bummer, it was still well worth the lovely matinee price of $6. Be brave though for there is lots of gore, which makes this western more worth my horrorfile while.
Since the weather was shit another weekend, I watched Tommy Lee Jones' Three Burials of Meliquides Estrades, and that was pretty hardcore also. Very well done, what can I say? Hooked on Westerns.
All I know is that I see the snow falling out my window and I want to escape to the wild wild west.

Funny Telly!

I'm now obsessed with the cheeky Graham Norton show on BBC. It's a night-time talk show, slightly flamboyant and very hilarious. Not only can guests swear and drink on set, but Graham will have you rolling on the floor in tears. I am, every time. Check it out, 10 pm Saturday, BBC. You will be hooked and switch from that dribble on late night in America.
